K Ready starts Nov. 6
The Hansen Library is thrilled to offer two options for parents with 3- to 5-year-olds this fall and winter.
1) K Ready Program. We will run two, 5-week sessions. The first session begins Monday, Nov. 6 and runs through Monday, Dec. 4. Sessions run from 10 to 11 a.m. and are free. You don’t have to attend all 5 sessions. New this year — we will record a short video featuring the story that was highlighted that week along with what letters and activities were used so families who can’t participate in person can use the resources at home. The fall session will focus on letters, with the winter session (beginning Jan. 8th) focusing on math and science.
2) Ready for Kindergarten Parent Workshops sponsored by the Idaho Association for Education of Young Children. We will hold three workshops: Dec. 11, Feb. 12 and Mar 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (there is a link on the flier below). Please register for these workshops as you will receive education kits for your use at home. These workshops are also free.
Family Reading Week is Nov. 11
The Hansen Library is hosting Family Reading Week activities on Saturday, Nov. 11 with the theme “Art is All Around.” We will be painting, drawing, decorating cookies and making our own comic books. Please join us for this fun morning of creating.
Kindergarten Readiness was a success
Thanks to the Idaho Commission for Libraries the Hansen Community Library was able to offer a Kindergarten Readiness Program in 2023 winter/spring. We had 10 session between January and March. Our favorite story was of a participant who was practicing his ‘draggy leg g’ through the grocery store.
As part of that grant, we have created early literacy kits that include books, activities and/or games and a tip sheet for ways you can help build early literacy at home. Literacy is much more than just letters and numbers — it is also learning to take turns and developing the muscle skills to hold a pencil. Literacy is anything that helps a child learn. These kits are designed to help foster a love of learning (and reading) within your family.
We developed 12 kits with themes ranging from ABCs to sorting to tractors to dinosaurs with oceans, super heroes and plants to arrive later this summer. With a total of 18 kits in rotation, please check back often to see what’s new.
We hope to offer a Kindergarten Readiness Program again beginning in the fall 2023.
